Best customer loyalty software in 2026, how to choose, and who fits what

Start here, because we are one of the vendors on this page

TrueLoyal® makes customer loyalty software, and we are on this list. You should read it knowing that, and you should discount anything here that we have not sourced.

So instead of pretending to be neutral, we did four things. We grouped vendors by what you are actually buying rather than ranking them one to twenty-five. We said plainly where someone else is the better choice. We sourced every factual claim about a competitor to something that company has published. And we left out numbers we can't stand behind.

If you want the short version, most brands do not need to compare twenty-five products. They need to work out which of five or six categories they are shopping in, and then compare three.

The question that narrows it fastest

Where does the purchase happen?

If your customers buy from your own store, your transaction data already exists, and an ecommerce loyalty app will serve you well and cost little. Smile.io, LoyaltyLion, Rivo, Growave, and Yotpo all sit here.

If a meaningful share of your products sell through grocery, mass, pet, specialty, or a distributor network, the retailer owns that transaction and you will never see it in your ecommerce platform. You need software that captures those purchases some other way, usually by reading receipts.

If you already hold transaction data at scale and the hard part is program logic across brands, regions, or coalitions, you are shopping for an enterprise loyalty engine.

Those three answers point at almost entirely different shortlists. Getting this wrong is the most expensive mistake in the category, and it happens more often than any feature comparison would suggest.

Ecommerce loyalty apps

These are built on the order record from your own store. They are fast to install, inexpensive, and the right answer for a direct-to-consumer brand.

Yotpo sells loyalty as one module alongside reviews, SMS, email, and subscriptions, and states more than 30,000 loyalty programs launched and $150 billion in GMV across brands using it. Its pricing is public, which is unusual in this category, with a free tier and Pro from $199 a month including 500 orders. Its published materials do not describe receipt scanning. We compare the two of us in more detail in our TrueLoyal vs Yotpo comparison.

Smile.io, LoyaltyLion, Rivo, and Growave occupy similar ground with different emphases, and all of them are straightforward to run on Shopify.

The limitation they share is not a flaw. They see the orders their platform sees, so if most of your buyers purchase your product somewhere else, these tools can't reach them.

Loyalty software with receipt scanning

This is an ongoing member program where purchases made in stores you don't own are captured by members submitting receipts, and those purchases land on the same member record as a direct order.

Annex Cloud is the most substantial of these. Its documentation describes OCR against a configurable confidence threshold, a human moderation queue for anything below it, a switch to require human sign-off even on auto-approved receipts, product matching against a brand-maintained products report, retailer matching, and submission by app, SMS, or WhatsApp. It states 2 billion loyalty events a year, 500 million transactions a year, and 115 million member profiles, and it names Harley-Davidson, Harrods, Henkel, TaylorMade, Amer Sports, and Air Miles among its customers. It is built for large multi-brand, multi-region enterprises. See our full TrueLoyal vs Annex Cloud comparison.

TrueLoyal is built around the same capture problem, but for channel complexity rather than organizational complexity. That means one brand, or a few, whose products sell through retailers they don't own. We read receipts down to the line item and put every purchase on a single member record, we run brand community and user-generated content through Fan Club™, and we integrate with Oracle NetSuite, Adobe Commerce, VTEX, Shopify, Klaviyo, and HubSpot. We are smaller than Annex Cloud and manage nothing like 115 million member profiles. If you are a global house of brands running programs across many regions, they are the more proven answer, and we would tell you that on a call. You can see how ours works on our Receipt Scanning page.

Bubblehouse pairs receipt scanning with subscription loyalty and gamification, and its pricing is quoted through sales rather than published.

Antavo is a loyalty engine that adds receipt scanning through a partnership with Klippa rather than its own technology, and it sells receipt scanning for an additional fee on top of its standard pricing.

For a deeper look at this category, see our guides to the best receipt scanning software and the best loyalty software for CPG and retail.

Promotion and rebate specialists

These offer receipt validation built around campaigns rather than a standing membership. They are excellent at running the campaign, and the relationship generally ends when the campaign does.

Snipp repositioned in March 2026 around measurement, describing itself as a platform that connects marketing to measurability through verified SKU-level attribution. It validates receipts, invoices, and purchase orders, publishes figures of more than a thousand campaigns and 100 million validated transactions, holds ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type 2, and runs a media network alongside its loyalty products. If your question is whether marketing spend drove sales, this is a better fit than a loyalty platform. See TrueLoyal vs Snipp.

Brandmovers describes itself as “a full-service partner, not a pure software vendor.” It offers BLOYL for consumer loyalty, BENGAGED for B2B and channel incentives, and an agency practice around both that covers strategy, creative, legal compliance, and program management. It was founded in 2003, has offices in Atlanta, London, and Mumbai, has run more than 3,000 campaign launches, and holds SOC 2 Type II, PCI DSS, and GDPR compliance. It is strong in regulated categories where promotions carry legal exposure. See TrueLoyal vs Brandmovers.

Enterprise loyalty engines

These offer deep program logic, rules engines, tiers, and coalitions, and they are built for organizations that already own their transaction data.

Talon. One is API-first and suits teams with engineering capacity who want to express promotion and loyalty rules in code. Open Loyalty is the open-source option in the same space. Capillary, Epsilon, and Salesforce Loyalty Management serve large enterprises, and Salesforce is the obvious choice if the rest of your stack is already Salesforce.

These are strong on the loyalty half and generally weak or absent on capturing purchases made offline.

Receipt OCR infrastructure

This is an API that reads a receipt image and returns structured data. It comes with no member management, no rewards, and no program.

Klippa, now trading as Doxis, extracts line items with price, quantity, description, and unit price, classifies lines into categories, uses image hashing to identify duplicates, and validates against campaign rules. It is available as an API, an SDK, or a low-code workflow builder. Veryfi is the other established name.

These are components, and they assume you are building everything around them. That is the right call if you have engineers and want to own the program layer.

Small business and POS-led

Fivestars, SpotOn, Kangaroo Rewards, TapMango, Preferred Patron, and PassKit serve local retail, hospitality, and service businesses, usually tied to a point-of-sale system rather than an ecommerce platform. They serve a different market from everything above.

On “AI loyalty software”

A large share of the searches that reach this page are for AI-powered loyalty platforms, AI-driven loyalty programs, and AI loyalty software. So we want to be blunt about what that means in this category in 2026.

Nearly every vendor here now describes some part of its product as AI. In practice the term usually covers one of four things. The first is OCR and image recognition for reading receipts. The second is predictive scoring for things like churn risk or the next best reward. The third is segmentation that groups members automatically rather than by hand-written rules. And the fourth is a natural-language interface for asking questions about program data.

Those are different capabilities, and they are not interchangeable. “AI-powered” on a vendor page tells you almost nothing on its own. The useful question is which of the four they mean, and whether it is a shipped feature with documentation or a roadmap item.

So ask any vendor making an AI claim which specific task they mean, what happens when the model is wrong, who reviews it, and whether you can see it running on your own data rather than a demo set.

How to evaluate, once you know your category

Five questions do more work than any feature grid.

  1. Where does the member record live, and what do you keep if you leave? Get the answer in writing, including the export format.
  2. Does a purchase made outside your own store resolve to the same person as an online order? If the system creates two records, you have bought a reporting tool rather than loyalty software.
  3. If receipts are involved, does extraction return line items or only the retailer and total? Test it on your own worst receipt instead of a clean sample.
  4. What happens when something fails, like a scan the system can't read, a duplicate submission, or a receipt from a retailer that isn't on the list? Ask who reviews it and how long a member waits.
  5. How is it priced, whether per campaign, per order, per member, or as a platform fee? The pricing shape tells you what the product is built for, often more honestly than the positioning does.

Where we are the wrong choice

Buy an ecommerce loyalty app instead of us if you sell almost entirely direct, because you would be paying for offline capture you don't need.

Buy a promotions specialist instead of us if what you need is one well-run campaign rather than a standing program, particularly in a regulated category.

Buy an enterprise engine instead of us if you are a house of brands running programs across many markets and the hard part is program logic rather than seeing your buyers.

Buy OCR infrastructure instead of us if you have engineers and want to own the program layer yourself.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best customer loyalty software?

There is no single best. The question that narrows it fastest is where the purchase happens. If your customers buy from your own store, an ecommerce loyalty app will serve you well and cost less. If a meaningful share of your products sell through retailers you don't own, you need software that can capture those purchases, usually through receipt scanning. And if you already hold transaction data and the hard part is program logic across brands or regions, you are shopping for an enterprise loyalty engine.

What does “AI-powered” actually mean in loyalty software?

It usually means one of four things. It can mean reading receipts with OCR and image recognition, predictive scoring such as churn risk or reward matching, automatic segmentation, or a natural-language interface for asking questions about program data. Nearly every vendor uses the term, so it carries little information by itself. Ask which specific task is meant, whether it is shipped or planned, and what happens when the model gets it wrong.

Which loyalty platforms offer receipt scanning?

Annex Cloud and TrueLoyal build it into the member program. Antavo adds it through a partnership with Klippa. Snipp and Brandmovers offer receipt validation built around campaigns rather than membership. Klippa, now Doxis, and Veryfi sell the OCR layer as infrastructure without any program around it.

Are there loyalty platforms with an API-first architecture?

Talon. One is the clearest example, designed for teams expressing promotion and loyalty rules in code. Open Loyalty offers a similar approach as open source. Most other vendors on this page provide APIs without being API-first, and that difference matters if you intend to build your own front end.

How much does customer loyalty software cost?

Few vendors publish pricing. Yotpo is an exception, with a free tier and Pro from $199 a month including 500 orders. Beyond the ecommerce app tier, pricing is almost always quoted. Loyalty software is usually priced as a platform fee, promotions specialists usually price per campaign, and OCR infrastructure is usually priced per document.

Who are the alternatives to LoyaltyLion, Yotpo, or Annex Cloud?

It depends which part you are replacing. For an ecommerce loyalty app, the direct alternatives are Smile.io, Rivo, and Growave. For receipt-based programs, they are Annex Cloud, TrueLoyal, Bubblehouse, and Antavo. For enterprise program logic, they are Talon. One, Capillary, Epsilon, Salesforce, and Open Loyalty. We have written detailed head-to-head comparisons for several of these.
